Bio
Deanna Wright's Biography
Born and raised in Ocala, Florida, Deanna began her acting career at the age of eight.
This acting, though, was in the form of homemade skits made up by her and her sister,
and performed for the video camera, usually filmed by her grandfather. At the age of
12, Deanna was urged by a friend to attend a modeling school in Ocala. Cassandra
Carrigan's Model Centre is where Deanna got her first round of formal training. She
learned how to do her own make up, basic auditioning techniques for commercials, and
the proper form of runway modeling. Cassandra saw in Deanna a determined, hardworking
young girl, and once the six week course was over, she decided to manage Deanna, and
ended up being very instrumental in her early career.
In the next three years, Deanna auditioned for many commercials, working for
companies such as Quincy's, Walt Disney, Euro Disney, and Sea World. Then, in April of
1996, Elite Modeling Agency flew her to New York City after she won a local, then
regional, model search. There, she worked with three high fashion photographers and
had her first real taste of editorial work. Though Elite decided that she was too
young at the time for the New York market, they assured her she would definitely have a
future career in modeling if she continued to pursue it. They were right, and her
career began in the summer of 1997 when an Italian agency called Flash of Milan asked
Cassandra to allow them to represent her in Europe. She spent eight weeks in Italy
modeling for teen magazines and catalogues, and even did a campaign for Wella, a
company that sells hair products internationally.
Deanna’s senior year of high school, she attended classes for a semester, and was
then granted special permission to spend her last semester of school in Miami to pursue
her modeling career. Working with Michele Pommier for modeling, she didn't do as well
as she'd hoped, so she took Cassandra's advice, and signed with Sheffield-Bloom --a tv,
film, and commercial agent-- for commercials only. Unfortunately, she didn't book
anything, print or commercially, for a few months, and unable to afford living in
Miami, she returned to Ocala in July 1998, where she decided to take some classes at
the local community college. Deanna thought her short lived show business career was
over, and that she would instead pursue her second dream of being a doctor.
In October, 1998, though, Sheffield-Bloom called her in Ocala, and asked her to
audition for an acting role. "I know you're not an actor, but the role is perfect for
you, so it's worth a shot," they said. Deanna ended up auditioning four times for the
role, but in the end did not get it because of her height. The experience, though,
opened in her a new desire: the desire to pursue acting.
During the 1999 pilot season, still unable to afford living in Miami, she continued
to take classes as well as drive to and from Miami, where her agent taped her auditions
and sent them to Los Angeles. This was how she landed a screen test and booked the
role of "Pennie" in the pilot Manchester Prep. The pilot was picked up, then dropped,
and later turned into the movie, Cruel Intentions 2.
In June of the same year, Deanna moved back to Miami, this time to take formal
acting classes at the Acting studio in Hollywood FL. She stayed there until pilot
season 2000, when she ventured for the first extended length of time to Los Angeles.
Pilot season was a disappointment to her, and discouraged, she again returned to Ocala
in March, questioning her desire to pursue such a potentially heartbreaking career. In
August of 2000, her question was answered, when Deanna was auditioned and chosen for the
role of Kay Bennett on NBC's Daytime Drama Passions.
